Nevis - Day One "Arriving"

Nevis is an island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc island chain of the West Indies. Nevis and the island of Saint Kitts form the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and are separated by a shallow two mile wide channel known as "The Narrows." Because we live on the west coast of the continental United States and there are only a couple of flights a day to Nevis, we spent Wednesday night in Miami and took the shuttle to the airport early this morning. Our flight to Saint Kitts (it  is the larger of the two islands) took about three hours, and thankfully both us and our luggage arrived safely!!!

These are some pictures of the local sights as we drove (in our air conditioned van) through the streets of
Basseterre on Saint Kitts from the airport to the dock to catch the boat to Nevis.

The boat ride from Saint Kitts to Nevis was about 45 minutes long and we loved the cool, wet, lemon grass scented wash cloths the staff on the boat provided for us to "freshen up" with! The temperature is expected to be between 88 degrees for the high and 78 degrees for a low with very high humidity this time of year. This is the boat that will take us from Saint Kits to Nevis ... we sat in the bottom section (out of the direct sunlight) and listened to calypso music while drinking a tropical punch drink!

This man was very friendly and told us lots of interesting things about Nevis. He was born on Ghana, but moved her about nine years ago. Allyn told him he looked like Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, and he took that as a compliment!

Photos of Saint Kitts as we were on the boat heading towards Nevis. The shadowy land you can see to the right of Saint Kitts in the last picture is our first glimpse of Nevis.

Gradually Nevis came into view and the first thing that caught our eye was the mountain whose top was covered by clouds. We later learned it is called Nevis Peak. Our group is staying at the Four Seasons Nevis, West Indies Resort, and our boat took us right to the pier in the center of the property.
